Proteen in one Pitch? 

ProTeen is a Ugandan-based impact venture that transforms organic waste into sustainable protein feed and fertilizer. By providing a circular solution, we make farming more profitable throughout East-Africa. Solving not only one challenge, but many interlinked challenges such as access to quality animal feed and fertilizer, waste management and youth employment.

Why is the HEC Paris label a real booster for your startup? 

Because of our link with HEC we continue to have the opportunity to share our work and ideas such as our recent Ted X Talk. It also allows us to reach out to mentors, alumni and potential investors. Whilst we are based in Uganda, our link to France remains strong and this June we hope to participate in several conferences such the Africa-France Summit in Bordeaux, as well as Afrobytes and VivaTech in Paris to showcase our innovations.

Where is ProTeen today and what is next? 

ProTeen has developed DIY Kits so that youth and farmers can create their own protein and fertilizer using their own farm waste. Our model is low-cost and within three weeks not only will they will have a new revenue source they will also lower their cost of fertilizer which they can use on their traditional crops.

In order to scale our impact even further, ProTeen will work with KCCA, the local municipality in charge of the city as well as private waste collectors to receive sorted organic waste, allowing us to give value to waste that would otherwise go to the already overflowing Kitezi landfill. Our first warehouse will re-direct and transform 4 % of Kampala’s waste with KCCA and we are already acquiring a second warehouse that is twice the size.

We are currently seeking 250k€ investment to scale our vision. We hope that ProTeen can become an example of how business can be both profitable and create long lasting impact.
